R*n 573: High Newton

Sunday 28th February 2016 at 11:00am Daytime

Just five hounds to appreciate this magnificent February day, the brilliantly set and hared trail, the comfortable going underfoot and the great beer at the on-inn.  Not the longest of trails, but more than made up for in steep climbs and crafty checks, making hard work for us FRBs.  The long out-trail persistently stuck to an uphill forest vehicle track despite our foraging for footpath deviations at the checks.  Upperskirt, in a desperate attempt to get off-track was even tricked into believing false promises of flour by a joe public.  She later got a well-earned down down for FRBing quite out of character on several occasions.

After a moderate deviation the trail came back to the forest track to complete the climb before branching off-piste into quiet plantation.  After a glorious liaison with a scenic reservoir, which I mentally noted as a perfect hash swim opportunity for a future r*n, we eventually were treated to an idyllic beer stop on open fell.  Duly refueled we enjoyed great views across the Cartmel fells to the sea as we descended on open ground to the parking spot and a small but perfectly formed circle.

I remember that Antiseptic got a down down for bragging about her running achievements, and there were a couple more that I can't remember now.  Well-chuffed we retired to a pleasant, quiet pub with cheery Landlord.  I could not comment on the food though, as Anti and I had to b*gger off elsewhere.
