Lindale

We set off from The Royal Oak pub in Lindale on a rather wet day, although the rain did let up as we continued on trail, only to pick back up again at the circle. Hares (Hard Astern and Ready About) came well prepared and the trail did not wash out thanks to a unique combination of flour and oatmeal, leading to what many had characterised as vomit on trail. After a quick start through the churchyard and cemetery we ascended through pasture to a nice view point. Continuing up through farmland and various shades of sheep in the meadows, including a deer, the routes for rambos and wimps went their separate ways at the farmhouse. Rambos were informed to keep “205” in mind and this would become obvious…hmmmm.

After a bit of a back and forth in another pasture, rambos made it up over the wall and around to find the trail up and along the ridge (fell) which continued to the Hampsfell Hospice landmark where indeed the importance of the number became apparent, marking the direction from the viewfinder on top to our continued direction. Magnificent views and an identification board pointed out the main landmarks.

Being led by experienced local Just Sonja, we looped around and found trail down and around and back to through the forest to the beer stop. Continuing on through the forest where there was another R&W split, a bit of splash among the feet was to be had at the stream but an otherwise uneventful romp through the forest before hitting the farming road where half the pack initially went left following the outbound trail, ready to almost run it again before doing an abrupt u-turn and retracing the outbound trail back to the Royal Oak. Wimps were still enjoying the trail as the rain started up again while the rambos enjoyed the abundant beer and refreshments waiting for them. Sending out a search party was contemplated before technology was used to confirm their location and imminent return.
