This was our 2nd visit. We also visited on...
Wainwright was blunt: the best square mile in the world is centred on Borrowdale. Admittedly, our Friday night hash to the pub was marginally outside his chosen square mile, but not by much. So there’s much to praise and not much to carp about the route we followed. Even better: the route was not too steep and the weather was good.
I’ve just been looking again at the pictures on the web-site. There’s not much to be added to them by my words.
Forever and Bubbles had an ‘x marks the spot’ approach to our crossing of the river by the campsite and then we headed downstream on well made but tough to run on paths. Trees, crags, quaint bridges and water features.
Down at Rosthwaite, the Rambos split off and headed past the Youth Hostel where Upper Skirt and Baldbrick had booked into, and then up river for a bit with a bit of a scramble over rocks here and there.
Our end point was the Langstrath Country Inn in Stonethwaite. Good beer and OK food but a tad expensive. I guess that’s on par for this beautiful place.
Nice to have some visitors: Chapped Lips, Moon Boots and Late Cummer, otherwise we’d have been a bit short on Rambos.
