This was our 1st visit. We also visited on...
Underbarrow was the setting for the hash, the weather was lovely and sunny, with a cold wind to keep us on our toes. We were reliably informed by the hares that the run was split into three parts: up, along and down.
Great! As we started the run we came to the first of many open checks. One blob and you’re on, if you can find it! Flour proved to be elusive, maybe there was a shortage of flour in Cumbria. 5 minutes into the run and already on the third open check, the hare helpfully pointed us into the right direction, what sportsmanship.
The run continued through a decimated forest, where Full Member somehow managed to lose the group and the trail! At this point we were still in stage one of the run, which culminated in a run up a 1 in 2 incline to the beer stop. Numerous orange juices and biscuits later, we entered phase two – along. Bitter showed his natural athleticism by starting at the back of the pack and ending up at the front by the end of phase two, unaffected by the gale force winds blowing across the fell.
A hash stop at the end of phase two, with the option of skipping stage three and taking the road back to Underbarrow. Far too easy an option, and we all headed towards stage three, a lovely run downhill, except for the bits that went uphill. Back at the car park there was a good turnout to the pub with a pint and hot meal enjoyed by most.
