About 13 walkers and Rambos/Walkers turned up for a memorable day. The sun was shining and the ground was reasonably dry for a change! An epic two hour challenging but scenic and very varied route was followed with clear views at times of the Lake District mountains. Highlights of the run included seeing steam trains, running alongside old Ironworks and surging rivers, wading through a few marshy meadows, seeing a WWII pillbox bunker (!) climbing numerous hills through leafy woodland and loads of checks and trails to explore. We also some saw some Highland cattle sitting picturesquely in the water meadows and during the Down Downs we saw a fleet of classic cars race past.. We had it all!
Apparently by the time we finished the runners had covered between 8.5 to 10 miles depending on false trails etc Brilliant!
Down Downs
Hares Dormouse and Speedbump – a fantastic run. (but not enough shiggy and too short!)
- Large package – for being too quiet
- Big Fish/Moirag -for chasing sheep.
- Neighbourlee – for running too many false trails
After the circle, we enjoyed some food at the Angler’s Rest – sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and at one point serenaded by a bagpiper for several tunes from a neighbouring table.
