This was our 6th visit. We also visited on...
There was plenty of daylight and the weather was mild and dryish when we circled in the car park of the George Washington at the unusual time for a Sunday r*n of 4:00. When I planned for this start time I hadn't remembered how quickly it gets dark after clocksback, but more about that later.
We had planned this trail from Warton thinking most of the pack would anticipate it would go up the crag and I put a check in the Warton Crag car park where the trail actually continued along Crag Road. Sure enough, they were fooled so I intervened to take them to the real trail, cutting down across the fields to Sand Lane and along the River Keer to the footbridge at Shore Road. From here the Wimps had not much further to go along Shore Road and Mill Lane to Carnforth Station. The Rambos however had a further mile to go along Shore Road in the opposite direction and then a couple of wet fields to the track behind Steam Town, arriving at the beer stop about 15 minutes later.
The Snug at the station was cosy and the range of beers on tap was marvellous. It was raining by then and I noticed it had quickly got dark so we (the hares) feared for our trail marking. We split up and did some marshalling to make sure nobody got lost both on the rambos split around the streets of Carnforth and on the wimps' progress to the very wet footpath back to Warton. Speedbump's comment was: "Thank you for welcoming us to Winter hashing."
All back safely and in good time for the AGPU meeting at 6:00, which was possibly the lowest attendance of all 24 AGPUs so far (though I haven't checked the records), due mainly to many being away on hols. Despite this it was remarkably speedy and fluent with all offices filled for the coming year and an assurance from late-cumming Upperskirt that our finances are well-balanced now. Thank you to all attending for your support and nice comments and I wish the new mismanagement team the best of luck for 2024-25.
Ready About did her final Religious Advisor duties in the pub, particularly as FCS had near demolished a wall by climbing on it at the on on circle.
Finally, a thank you to Janet in the kitchen at the George Washington for the timely and hearty dinner. We will cum again.
