This was our 5th visit. We also visited on...
Fortunately our two representatives of the Royal Mail weren’t striking this week so they were able to deliver a first class r*n on a red letter day for 3 of our hashers - Wears The Soap’s 50th outing, Forever Blowing’s 500th and UpperSkirt’s 650th. A very impressive feat of memory from our illustrious GM who appears to have learned the Running Total page of the website by heart.
Definitely a family occasion with brothers and sisters of all ages who were welcomed before we set off.
The quarry carpark led us all to believe we were heading up Farleton Knott but of course LP and FCS had done their research and we set off down the road to a beautifully marked split. There was no way the hounds would miss this hand painted sign which divided the routes.
Leaving the wimps to tramp the tarmac the Rambos were sent around, through and up and down fields in a loop only to regain the rest of the pack as they entered Burton in Kendal. Virgins John and Jane were educated in the niceties of checks and markings while LateCummer removed his clothing in an attempt to re-live his Greek holiday. 😱
The beer stop was welcome as always and the Rambos were reluctantly waved off with warnings of potential problems, but with detailed instructions all was well - except for Speedbump’s tumble, but not in the calf deep Shiggy or the ultra slippy bridge.
Up and up Clawthorpe hill, through a fragrant farm, left onto a bridle path and eventually the peloton of wimps were overtaken in the woods circling Farleton Knott. The path seemed endless but so was the flour and chalk and we eventually regained the carpark where the circle and buckets were set up - as we awaited the wimps muddy footwear was compared💩or muddy faces in Belle’s case.
New names were discussed and voted on and in true democratic style Big Dipper, Big Fish and Saboteur (real canine hound) were christened by the GM.
The hungry hounds retired to the Kings Arms. A lovely trail - cheers hares.
You’re lucky - I was going to try a Proclaimers themed write up “and I would hash 500 runs and I would hash 500 more” but I’ll leave that for the next 500 hashers - Lurch and Morticia!!
