Barrows Green

The Hashing song
(with apologies to Mike Harding from whom I think the original came).

N.B. To be sung with a Lancashire accent.

I've taken a liking to Hashing
I go every weekend I can
To see all the beauties of nature
Round our way and a bit further on

I sometimes get lost in my travels
When taking a poorly laid track
But with having a tongue in my napper
I've never yet failed to get back

I felt a bit nervous on this one
The field were deserted and still
And I hadn't heard a call for 10 minutes or more
And I thought I could do with a gill.

When just on the point of despairing
And starting bemoaning my fate
I ploughed through a bloody deep mud bath
To an arrow drawn just by a gate

From there it was almost plain sailing
Up hill and down dale the trail went
Apart from the wind and the downpour
And the fact that my legs were near spent

0n reaching the hares at the On Inn
And finding them waiting alone
I said "are they all sitting inside then
Or have some departed for home?"

"No" he said looking startled
"You are the first one to get here"
So quick as a flash I got cleaned up
And went in to order the beer!
